Allie Red“Hair We Go Again”
by Allie Red

Alphonse “Allie Red” Galizia has been in the professional beauty industry for over 25 years. During this time, he has gained international recognition for his expertise in all aspects of his field, ranging from artist/educator to innovator/manufacturer. His past experience includes serving as artistic director for Vidal Sassoon in New York; being President of Allie Red, Inc., a consulting/ marketing/ design & manufacturing company for the professional beauty industry based in Los Angeles, New York, and Tokyo, and serving as Southwest Regional Director for John Paul Mitchell Systems. His credits include work in film, video, and commercials, with Tom Hanks, Goldie Hawn, Julie Andrews, Rod Stewart, Deborah Harry, Chris Evert, Lilly Tomlin, Miss Universe Pageants, and many others. His work as a hair stylist has also been featured in Mademoiselle, Bazaar, the New York Times, and other publications.

As we make the transition from winter’s cold/dry/dark season into spring’s warmer/moister/longer days, we alter our lifestyle and behavior. “Change happens.” It’s time to spread our wings, come out of hibernation, and indulge in the beauty of brighter colors and a lot of sunshine!!!

Relatively speaking, it’s a great time to go for a little hair and color style change. Whether drastic or subtle, it’s all good--GO FOR IT!!

Usually the spring and summertime allow us to have a more carefree attitude. Our clothes and lifestyle portray a free-er way of being. So your hair should have a free-er feeling--a kind of disheveled, structured, wash and wear, “get-up-and-go” kind of look, if you know what I mean.

I suggest you call your salon and talk to your stylist about a little or a lot of change. Have a good consultation with him or her. You never can tell what might come out of a little conversation.

Let’s talk about hair care for a minute.... There are so many hair products and hair care companies to choose from. My professional advice: purchase your professional hair care products from your professional hair stylist/salon. The products in your salon are guaranteed and authentic. Allow your stylist/colorist to recommend the hair care regime designed for you personally. The value outweighs the cost.

So, as the warmer and sunnier days arrive, our hair needs to be given a little more attention. We need to moisturize the hair more often to compensate for the elements that our hair will be subjected to, like sun rays, swimming pools, the beach, and of course the almighty blowdryer. All of these elements help compromise the integrity of our hair fiber. We MUST put back what we take in order to maintain the delicate balance that the hair fiber needs.

So remember, I recommend that you call your salon and make an appointment with your hair person to discuss what you will be doing with your hair for the up-and-coming summer season. As usual, you know how to find me. ’Till next month.
